Essential Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Be a passionate ambassador for mountain biking in Texas and throughout the mountain bike industry.
  • With a relentless entrepreneurial spirit, work with MCP leadership to develop strategic plans to support revenue and visitor growth goals and expansion opportunities at the bike park and adjacent lodging.
  • Put ongoing plans in place to achieve resort goals surrounding profitability, guest experience and employee satisfaction, with agreed-upon KPIs to measure those goals.
  • Plan and manage all capital improvement projects with a specific focus on enhancing the biking experience, mountain development, and growing ancillary revenue opportunities.
  • Prepare and manage yearly resort budgets for approval, including capital and operating budgets.
  • Recruit, hire, mentor, coach, and develop resort leaders.
  • Be knowledgeable in all areas of resort operations, and provide hands-on expertise when necessary.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with various strategic business partners, public agencies, community organizations, and others whose influence and cooperation are critical to Spider Mountain and Thunderbird’s success.
  • Ensure a family-friendly experience for resort guests, including personally reviewing guest service scores and reviews, and making plans to address any issues.
  • Manage and provide guidance to departmental managers of all Spider Mountain departments including: mountain operations, tickets, rentals, retail, guest services, lodging, marina and food and beverage to ensure that financial and guest service goals are being met.
  • Serve as the resort spokesman and communicator for both internal and external partners.
  • Monitor employee and team performance to ensure that all company policies and procedures are followed, all company equipment is being operated in a safe and responsible manner.


Job Qualifications:

Education or Formal Training: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in business, management, or a related field preferred


  • At least five years of previous management experience required.
  • Experience managing expansion and capital projects is required.
  • Outdoor recreation experience preferred, hospitality experience preferred. 
  • Hands-on experience in mountain operations such as lift operations, lift maintenance, trail building, bike patrol, skills park, vehicle maintenance, lessons, rentals, retail, guest services, lodging and food and beverage preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Must be able to mountain bike at an intermediate level or higher, and passionate about growing and expanding the sport
  • Strong Business Acumen
  • Strong people leadership and change management skills required
  • Strong project management skills required
  • Ability to read a P&L and adhere to a budget
  • Ability to develop and grow direct reports
