Who’s going to get First Chair?

After several weeks of warm temperatures, high humidity, and highly variable overnight conditions, we’re excited to share the news everyone has been waiting for: Purgatory Resort will open for our 60th winter season this Friday, November 28th.

Thanks to a combination of natural snowfall and a massive around-the-clock effort from our snowmaking crews, we’ve built enough coverage to open with skiing/riding served by Engineer Double (Lift 2).

Opening Terrain

For opening weekend, guests will be able to:

  • Upload and download on Purgatory Express (Lift 1)
  • Ski and ride Westfork and Limbo trails with access to Engineer Double (Lift 2)
  • Early season conditions exist for intermediate and advanced abilities only; use caution and remain on groomed runs only
  • No beginner terrain is currently available

Given the weather challenges this month, the conditions are genuinely impressive. We’re grateful for the natural snow and for the long nights from our mountain operations, snowmaking and grooming teams, who maximized every productive temperature window, and worked through plenty of marginal ones.

A Look at Snowmaking and Weather Through the Holiday Weekend

Starting Saturday, more “normal” temperatures for this time of year will be present during the day and overnight, with a storm predicted to drop 6-12” at the top of the mountain. There are also more storms forecasted through next week. Winter appears to have finally arrived at Purgatory Resort!

Snowmaking will continue across the mountain whenever the weather allows, and we’ll open more terrain as quickly as we can. After in-fill and fine tuning over the weekend we will make the move toward Demon to deliver top-to-bottom terrain as soon as possible.

Joining Our Sister Resorts

With this Saturday’s opening, Purgatory joins several Power Pass resorts already spinning lifts this season, including Brian Head, Arizona Snowbowl, and Lee Canyon. Across the network, the goal is the same: get people on snow as early as possible. We’re excited to officially join them for the start of winter.

Get Ready for Opening Day

If you haven’t already:

It’s always a special moment when the first chair of the season loads, and we can’t wait to welcome you back to the mountain.

We’ll continue to share updates here on The Purgspective throughout the weekend and as conditions evolve. Thank you for your patience, your support, and your enthusiasm. See you on Friday.

Best regards,
