Early Season Update: Snowmaking, Weather, and Opening Plans

First snowfall on November 17th captured by drone
Current conditions as of 11/17 as unfavorable weather and warm temps delay our scheduled opening

We continue to wait for favorable temperatures and a shift in the current weather pattern. As a result, a new projected opening date will be announced after this weekend, once we have a clearer picture of temperatures and snowmaking windows, which look better as we approach Thanksgiving.

Our teams continue to work around the clock to prepare the mountain for the start of the 2025-26 winter season. We know many of you are eager to get back on snow – we feel the same. Our snowmaking crews have been making snow since last weekend, but results have not been to expectations. The only snowmaking weather risk is we may see temperature inversions where the base remains colder than the summit. As always, we will continue adapting hour by hour to maximize every opportunity to make snow as efficiently as possible.

Because of these shifting conditions, our goal is to stay transparent, provide accurate information, and minimize disruptions to your winter traditions and vacation plans. Anyone with pre-purchased ski products for dates we are not operating will be able to apply the value to future dates according to our published policy.

Legends Snowmaking Project Completed

revegetation project on the legends snowmaking pipeline expansion

While we wait for colder weather, we’re excited to share a major milestone. The Legends snowmaking and revegetation project is officially complete. We fired up the new system last weekend to finish the final round of testing, and our partners at Horizon Environmental have completed the initial restoration on the trail. This project will ensure improved snow quality on the Legends trail and most importantly, the conditions off the Ray’s Ridge headwall and Legends Bypass leading to the bottom of Legends Express (Lift 8). Having snowmaking to the bottom of Hermosa Park on Boogie and Legends trails will also give us the ability to ensure our entire lift network can be open prior to Christmas in most every year. You can read more background on this project in our Fall 2025 update.

Looking Ahead: Thanksgiving & Winter Events

Even without lift access just yet, there’s plenty to look forward to:

  • Thanksgiving Dinner at the resort on November 27th.
  • Early-season events and celebrations as soon as the mountain opens.
  • Holiday programming and winter activities throughout December.
  • Exciting new projects to be built for the 2026/27 season will be announced in the coming weeks.

Our teams remain committed to opening as soon as conditions allow. We’ll continue to share updates here on The Purgspective, through social media, and via email so you always have the most accurate, up-to-date information.

Thank you for your patience, your excitement, and your support as we move into winter. We can’t wait to welcome you back to the mountain.

Best regards,
Dave Rathbun
General Manager
