Thinking about starting your adventure together at Purgatory?

Here are some common questions and answers about the details of what your big day could look like. If any of your questions are not listed, please reach out by calling (970) 426-7276, e-mailing [email protected], or by completing the Wedding Inquiry Form.

How many venue options are there?

There are three venues at Purgatory.
-The largest option is Dante’s, which hosts up to 200 people. Dante’s pairs with its own ceremony site, and is accessible only by shuttle from the base. It is available June – September.
–Purgy’s is located right at the base and pairs with Paradise, Engineer, or Boyce ceremony sites. Purgy’s hosts up to 150 people and can be found just steps away from the base of Lift 1.
-The Durango Mountain Institute is the third venue option. It hosts up to 80 people (good for smaller weddings) and can also be found just steps away from the base of Lift 1. The DMI pairs with Boyce or Engineer ceremony sites.

How many ceremony sites are there?

We have four different ceremony sites. You can check out our instagram for more pictures of all the sites.
–Dante’s ceremony site is located directly outside of Dante’s venue, and is only accessible by shuttle. This site can fit up to 200 people and is available June – September.
–Paradise ceremony site is located at the top of the mountain, and is accessible by chairlift or by shuttle. This site can hold up to 150 people, pairs with Purgy’s or the DMI, and is available July – September.
–Boyce ceremony site is just across the highway from the resort and is accessible by shuttle. This site can host up to 115 guests, pairs with Purgy’s or the DMI, and is available June – mid-October.
–Engineer ceremony site is located just a few hundred yards away from Boyce ceremony site. This site can fit 150 people, pairs with Purgy’s or the DMI, and is available June – mid-October.

Are dogs allowed?

Dogs are welcomed and adored at all of our ceremony sites! However, our venues are pet free. We recommend Here Comes the Floof, a dog care service that can handle every part of your dog’s big day!

What’s the starting price for a wedding here?

A wedding at Purgatory can start at about $15,000, which includes the venue fee, the ceremony site, transportation from site to venue, dinner, and drinks. The cost will vary depending on which venue you choose, your guest count, your bar package, and other variables. We do have smaller group packages available on a limited basis.

What happens in case of bad weather?

In the incident of bad weather, your options vary. In the case of rain, the couples can choose to delay the ceremony a bit or proceed in the rain. Purgatory has a select number of umbrellas to provide. In case of lightning at Paradise ceremony site, the lifts will pause until 30 minutes after the last strike within range. Worst case scenario, Purgy’s and Dante’s venues can be used as a backup ceremony site.

Maximum number of guests allowed per venue?

-Dante’s: Up to 200 guests.
-Purgy’s: Up to 150 guests (less if there is a band playing)
-Durango Mountain Institute: Up to 80 guests

When is Purgatory available for weddings?

-Boyce and Engineer sites are available June – mid-October.
-Dante’s is available mid-June – September.
-Paradise is available late June – September.

How far in advance should I book for our wedding?

If you are looking for a weekend date, specifically a Saturday in September, you should aim to book a year plus in advance. September is our most popular month, so planning and booking well ahead of time will best serve you for securing your venue as well as other vendors.
For a non-weekend date, you can often book within the same year.
We recommend reaching out to the email listed above or filling out the form to get an accurate range of available dates. You never know if your dream date is just waiting for you to claim it!

Do you require a wedding planner?

We do require a wedding planner, or at the very least a wedding coordinator. We have a preferred vendor’s list with recommendation of who we have worked with and who has done an incredible job at Purgatory. Please fill out the form or reach out to the email listed above to receive this list.

Can I cater food in to Purgatory?

We require all food and drinks, with the exception of desserts, be done through Purgatory. Reach out to us via the listed email or filling out the form to receive details and pricing.

Do I need to get outside transportation once at Purgatory?

Basic transportation to and from the ceremony sites are included. For larger groups, there may be an additional transportation fee. Our transportation methods include shuttles and a six-person chairlift.

Do you offer on-resort lodging?

Yes! We have many lodging options, from studio rooms to five bedroom homes for rent. Check out our lodging page to explore these options.
