Spring Patrol Tryouts FAQ

Have you ever wanted to work at a ski resort? Ever thought being a Ski Patroller would be a cool winter job? Want to join a team of highly trained medical professionals who love to have fun, work hard, and help those in need? Have no idea what Ski Patrol does and just want to find out? Well, here is your chance!

The Purgatory Professional Patrol will be hosting its annual Spring Tryouts on March 23rd 24th, and 27th Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday. We are looking for candidates to join the team for the 24/25 Winter season. The Purgatory Pro Patrol accepts all types of snow sliders, we allow alpine skiers, telemark skiers, and snowboarders.

Tryouts will be an all-day affair. We will start with a ski test across the mountain demonstrating maneuvers common to Patrol work, then move on to a medical assessment where we will put your assessment/provider skills to the test (it is just to see your problem-solving/documentation skills, don’t fret if you have no prior medical training), and wrap up with a Q&A session with the Patrol Leadership where you can turn the tables and find out more about our team, what the job entails, and if this is the right place for you.

If you are interested please contact the Patrol Director at [email protected] to reserve your spot. Space is limited each day so act fast!

FAQs:

  • Is attending the tryout required to apply for the 24/25 season?
    • No, but it’s where we start in the selection process. Those who try out are considered first for positions. Other applicants hired will be conditional on passing an “on-the-job” ski test.
  • Do I need to have a medical certification to attend the tryout?
    • Not at all, just when you officially apply.
    • Here are the certifications we accept:
      • National Ski Patrol, Outdoor Emergency Care
      • Colorado EMS, EMT Basic, Intermediate, Paramedic
  • What if I’m not sure if my skiing/riding ability is good enough to Patrol?
    • Join us anyway! Our team of evaluators will give you feedback and stuff to work on prior to selection.
  • Do I attend both days or just one?
    • Just one of the two. We have two days to accommodate more candidates. Please send your preferred day to the Patrol Director.
  • When will I know if I am offered a position on Patrol?
    • Our official hiring process starts in September after we’ve heard back from all the returning Patrollers. All who attend the tryout will receive an email when the job posting is up for application.
