Essential Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safe, high quality, productive, and efficient Terrain Park and Bike Park operations on a daily basis.
  • Supervise Bike Park and Terrain Park personnel to include interviewing, hiring, training, preparing and assigning work schedules, and disciplinary discussions.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of Terrain Park and Bike Park operations to include design, construction, features, maintenance, safety, risk management, incident reporting, and training of staff.
  • Snow Cat and Heavy Equipment operations, general equipment maintenance, and best practices.
  • Ensure the proper operation, care of, and troubleshooting of all equipment used, including, but not limited to, snowmobiles, snowcats, excavators, trail dozers, other earth and snow moving equipment, various hand and power tools
  • Implement, oversee, and ensure proper Terrain Park and Bike Park design and layout, construction, maintenance, Bike Park Master Planning, and documentation.
  • Ensure daily inspections are conducted in accordance with NSAA Terrain Park and Bike Park guidelines.
  • Ensure no damage to trees, lifts, buildings, vehicles, equipment, or environment.
  • Ensure completion of all necessary paperwork in a timely manner. Maintain all record keeping.
  • Commit to education, training, and implementation of all safety and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with, and keep the Marketing Department, Slope Maintenance Manager, Snowmaking Supervisor, Patrol, Lift Maintenance, Lift Operations, and the Director of Mountain Operations apprised of significant changes to trail conditions, snow conditions, park status, recommendations, and hazardous conditions.
  • Prepare equipment assignments and schedules for each operating shift
  • Implement and enforce safe operational policies and procedures for vehicles, machinery, tools and staff. Train, document, and reinforce proper and safe procedures for operating machinery.  Pre-season training with all staff on pre-operational and post-operational checks, expectations, safety/risk management, and provide ongoing follow-up and continued training as needed.
  • Lead daily pre-shift meetings with staff each day of operations to cover; trail assignments, equipment status, and a weekly safety topic – to be documented each week.
  • Closely monitor employee performance to ensure all company equipment is being operated in a safe and responsible manner to minimize damage to company property and to the environment.
  • Ensure completion of an investigation, if company property is damaged to determine the cause of the incident. Report any and all equipment damage, incidents, and injuries to the Slope Maintenance Manager immediately.
  • Ability to work under extreme weather conditions.

Additional Duties:

  • Assist with Terrain Based Learning© building and grooming.
  • Assist with nightly fleet grooming operations as needed.
  • Assist with social media as assigned by manager or director.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Planning, Coordination, and operations of special events including event set up, day of event management and take down.

    Other Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to an annual budget
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive Bike Park/Terrain Park Manual with Slope Maintenance Manager
  • Have a thorough understanding of the Colorado Skier Safety Act.
  • Report to work wearing appropriate clothing and footwear.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Job Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Solid mechanical knowledge.  Ability to read and write English.  Must have a current DSC snowmobile license or have the ability to acquire.  Ability to ski intermediate ski runs.  Advanced Mountain Biking Skills essential.  Heavy equipment and snowcat operating experience required

Alertness, precision, initiative, ingenuity, persuasiveness, problem-solving, analytic ability, judgment, concentration, and auditory, tactile, and visual discrimination are necessary abilities.

 

Education or Formal Training:  High School diploma or GED.  Valid Colorado Driver's License.

 

Experience:  At least three years of Bike Park and or Terrain Park experience and previous supervisory experience required.  Knowledge of various Bike and Terrain Park  processes is essential.

 

Material and Equipment Directly Used:

Snowmobiles, off highway and on highway vehicles, snowmaking guns and related equipment, snowcats, excavators, dozers, back-hoe, loader, power and hand tools, toxic, caustic chemicals and lubricants. Emergency equipment and first aid equipment.  Must have knowledge in the use of hazardous materials and clean up.

 

Working Environment/ Physical Activities:

90% of the workday is spent outdoors at night in a mountain environment, in changing weather conditions to include snow, wet and cold.  Frequently walking and standing.

Constantly lifting objects weighing up to 100 pounds.  Frequently pushing, pulling, and/or carrying objects weighing up to 100 pounds.  Occasionally climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, operating controls, fingering, and feeling objects.  Frequently reaching and handling objects.  Occasionally tasting/smelling.  Frequently engaging in ordinary conversation and yelling.  Noise levels reach 100 decibels six hours of the workday without hearing protection.  With hearing protection noise levels reach approximately 71 decibels.  Frequent vibrations from snowmobile.  Constantly using near and far acuity, depth perception, accommodation and field of vision.

Frequent exposure to fumes, odors, dusts, mists and gases.  Frequent exposure to mechanical hazards.  Occasional hazards include high exposed work-sites, burns, radiant energy, explosives, and frostbite due to extreme cold.  Constantly exposed to mechanical hazards and frequently to electrical.  This is a skiing position.
